Karen L. Haas was appointed to the governing board of the Office of Congressional Ethics on February 22, 2021. Ms. Haas retired from the United States House of Representatives in 2019 after more than thirty years of service. She served as Clerk of the House of Representatives beginning in the 109th Congress and concluded her service in the 119th Congress. The Clerk leads an organization of two hundred professionals providing legislative support and services to Members of Congress, staff and the public. Ms. Haas was reappointed by both republican and democratic Speakers of the House.
During her tenure, Ms. Haas also served as Staff Director of the House Small Business Committee and Executive Director of the House Conference. For more than 15 years she worked in various positions in leadership within the House of Representatives.
Ms. Haas has previously served as Co-chair of the Advisory Committee on the Records of Congress and as a Member of the Congressional Accessibility Services Board.
Ms. Haas has a B.A. from the University of Maryland.
